Your Golden Ticket To Fitness Success: The 6 Month Rule

Is there a rule that can help me have success with my fitness journey?

As technology has advanced at a blistering pace for the last 30 years. Is anyone still checking AOL on their Palm Pilot? How does technological advances impact your fitness results? Let me explain.

Instead we order anything we want from Amazon at any time of day in two clicks on our "cell phone" and it shows up in a day or two for the Prime people. Do you want to know what your friend is up to? We used to have to wait for school the next day or fire off a messenger pigeon. Today, instagram. More like instant-gram.

New movie is out. Blockbuster trip? "What is a blockbuster" googles away the 7th grader.

Am I anti-tech? A bitter dumbbell coach watching the world change out of my circle of competence. Left behind with a heavy barbell in my hands?

Absolutely not, I take pride in keeping up the best I can. Sure I cannot give an hour thesis on the metaverse, AI, and self driving cars. However, I can fire up the ole YouTube on how to fix my toilet handle. The house isn't flooded and the annoying running water sound is gone. Success! Thanks big tech. You know I went to Texas Tech come to think of it.

My point of all this gibberish is to show you how much technology has improved our lives and at the same time all but destroyed our patience.

How long until I see results from my workouts?

"Young people today have an attention span that can be measured in nanoseconds"

- Billionaire on the movie Baseketball (1998)

Here in 2022, people have the attention span that can be measured in picoseconds. A picosecond is one-trillionth of a second. A nanosecond is one billionth of a second. Impressed with my vocabulary and knowledge of time measurements? Don't be! I just googled it.

My goal of this blog is to take you out of your high technology timing and back to nature's timing. You know one thing that technology can't do? Make a seed sprout and turn it into a beautiful plant bearing yummy, life giving fruit. Only God can do that for us. Sure it takes a perfect amount of time and the fruit is very good!

As you know, nature's timing is much different than our daily lives influenced by technology. Despite what the informercials roar for only $19.99, our flesh bodies were designed by God. Yeah the same Almighty that grows the seeds into food for us. Worthwhile accomplishments take time and you have to work at it! Sure it is satisfying to stick with it until the end and accomplish making popcorn with a Jiffy Pop. But after a few minutes, the thrill subsides.

I'd like to invite you to be more patient and reap the BIG rewards in life. Your fitness journey is sure to work in due time if you are exercising more and eating more sensibly than you were beforehand. Changes are happening! Sure we can optimize things to speed up the process by lifting weights and eating right, but trying to force nature is folly. If not, funny. There exists an unwritten law among physique experts and bodybuilders that we believe to be very true: "your body reflects today exactly what nutrition and training you put into it 6 months ago."

Enter the 6 Month Rule to experience lasting health & fitness

6 months?! Why so long?! I get it you have been consumed with instant gratification for years now, but I have some sad news you cannot order a stunning physique on the web and have it at your door in two days or less. Your body is not a toaster or an air fryer. This will take some elbow grease and discipline. Wimps won't see it through as you know when the going gets tough, wimps squeak!

Sometimes introducing mathematics can help you to see the bigger picture. 6 months (180 days) is a very small commitment when you look at what percentage it is of your entire life. Enter math...

6 months (180 days) is...

1.6% of a 30 year old life

0.9% of a 50 year old life

0.7% or a 70 year old life

90+ year old keep doing whatever you have been doing!

Experience shows us that people following a well designed personalized plan and eating properly will see major changes in their health and physique in just 6 months. It's not like we are asking for the moon here either! Consider Pareto's Principle that states, very convincingly, that for many outcomes roughly 80% of the consequences come from 20% of causes.

Investing less than 2% of your entire life to get started and with focus getting your health back on track is a great deal! At least it isn't 20% right!? Sure once you have achieved your initial goals you can aim higher or aim to maintain your new, healthier body. You only get one health and one body why not make the best of it? You are never younger than you are right now. Implement "the rule" and go all in for 6 months, why not? You can do this!
